The Watt Institution

The Watt Institution, named after inventor James Watt, is one of Inverclyde’s heritage sites and key to learning about arts and entertainment, world culture and local heritage. It contains fine art, egyptology, decorative art and natural history along with archives, historical artefacts and world class artwork. The Watt Institution is the home of the of the McLean Museum and Art Gallery, the Watt Library, Inverclyde Archives and the Watt Hall in a wonderful Grade A listed building designed by Sir Edward Blore, the earliest of these buildings established was the Watt Library, which opened in 1837.
